  • Japanese Streetwear Edge: How Bape’s Collaborations Redefine Fashion Partnerships

Ask anyone who’s a freak of streetwear or enchanted by the magical elements of Japanese designers — Bape  has had a grip on the urban elite like no other. Considered a masterclass of Japanese innovation, the streetwear brand has evolved from an Asian cult into a global colossus. Forging a cultural connection unrivaled by its peers, A Bathing Ape has served as a bridge between the Neo-Tokyo vibes of Japan and the cool, chill attitude of Western streetwear. In fact, Bape has reached beyond the fashion scene of rebels, turning itself into a pop culture fixture—dabbling in collaborations that highlight the art of baping, whether that’s in art, sports, music, or even playthings. In 2024, these collaborations ventured beyond traditional limits, redefining monumental bonds and solidifying Bape’s status as a creative powerhouse. To be honest, I’m left wondering at the sheer influence a Bape artifact can have. While Bape’s Shark Full Zip Hoodie could be considered evidence of this, what Bape has in store next could easily exceed the legendary standards already set. The Japanese Streetwear Aesthetic Setting the Tone for Neo-Tokyo The influence of Japanese streetwear  has transcended global trends, evolving into its own distinct niche. From gyaru  and kogal  to cyberpunk , the Japanese fashion sphere has grown into a cultural juggernaut, even moving the sternest critics at Tokyo Fashion Week. This year, the influence of Tokyo’s underground subcultures was more evident than ever, as designers embraced a mix of punk, goth, oversized silhouettes, and experimental layering. Amidst all this, Bape has triumphed as a pioneer, welcoming captivating elements like chic fringes, monochromatics with a twist, and an array of hot hues. Similarly, brands like Undercover, Kota Gushiken , and Hysteric Glamour  have quickly gained recognition—not just for their rebellious collections, but also for their remarkable partnerships. As a result, Japanese brands’ influence has steadily extended beyond Tokyo's streets, shaping both runways and RTW collections alike. The continued rise of Japanese streetwear has set the tone for Neo-Tokyo vibes on a global scale, marking a revolution that shows no signs of slowing down. "Bape is a testament to the intersection of nostalgia and innovation,’’ When Icons Collide: Behind the Scenes in the BAPE Partnership Station Bape has this unique ability to resonate with a vast arts & culture audience–often tapping into a world that fuses shared identities and individualistic beliefs. What goes on behind the scenes that amplify streetwear ethos with partnerships has been a huge part of what Bape strives for.  This year, Bape has collaborated with industry giants such as Adidas , Anti Social Social Club , and Porter , along with Be@rbrick and, most recently, esteemed rapper Don Toliver . From channeling our inner child with Hello Kitty themes to connecting with sneakerheads through legendary camo designs, Bape has offered a sugary homage to us whimsical mavericks.  Bape's 2024 collaborations stood out for their innovative blend of nostalgia, exclusivity, and cultural resonance. Notably, Bape revisited the Y2K aesthetic, especially with the Adidas Orketro runner. Furthermore, it showcased its knack for fusing minimalism with Bape elements, crafting limited-edition luxury for those who straddle the line between classic and streetwear. From exclusive merchandise to premium bags and statement-making jeans, Bape’s annual collaborations strengthened its position as a cultural zeitgeist–relentless, on the move, and always on top.  In 2024, the collaborations weren’t just about offering more of the same. While Bape has long been known for its epic alliances with READYMADE, Canada Goose, Puma, and even R&B singer The Weeknd, this year marked significant growth in Bape’s broader cultural lexicon. Through these partnerships, Bape continues to harness the nostalgia momentum while challenging norms, securing its place at the forefront of the cultural impact of Japanese streetwear. • Meet Henry Zankov: The Designer Who Knits Real-Life Hugs

There are very few things in life I cherish during the cold, harsh season of winter—one of them being a kitschy piece of knitwear that feels like a real-life hug. Before winter fashion spiraled out of hand with the domination of faux furs and leopard print, there was the humble knitwear, keeping things warm and snuggly. And for me, that’s all I could ask for—nestling in a statement sweater that’s roomy. Undeniably, the toasty and timeless appeal of knits makes the chill in the air bearable while serving as the dependable wardrobe hero. And, artisanal knitwear that refines fashion for cold weather is where Henry Zankov shines, with his signature designs that put even the boldest winter statements to shame.  With a background at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City and a proven track record of working with top designers like Diane Von Furstenberg, Donna Karan, Christopher John Rogers, and Tanya Taylor, Zankov showcases a novel take on luxury knitwear. This future visionary pioneers in crafting sustainable knits, maintaining a commitment to strictly using fabrics such as non-mulesed wool, alpaca mohair, merino wool, and BCI certified cotton. While the use of these fabrics are not ground-breaking by any means, his dedication to make his garments from top-quality threads are worth celebrating. The Russian knitwear designer explains, "I want to make pieces that you can cherish," unveiling his desire to be a part of a larger cause. Taking the less-traveled, unorthodox path, Zankov crafts contemporary knits that look snug as a bug and feel like a hug, all thanks to his dedication to sourcing materials from credible, ethical suppliers. His thoughtful approach ensures that each piece is not only luxurious but also kind to the planet. ‘’Zankov Crafts Luxury Knitwear for the Modern Wardrobe–Sustainable, Ethical, and Oh-So Chic’’ The Signature Touch of Zankov Knitwear  These aren’t your grandma’s sweaters, folks! As a designer on the watchlists of fashion insiders alike, Zankov’s knitwear showcases the art of blending bold design with wearability. From his exploration of genderless knitwear to the playful mix of texture, color play, and animal prints, this designer evokes heightened emotions while fusing punk with preppy, setting the stage for 70s nostalgia to intertwine with the girl-next-door vibe of Ivy style. Whether he's crafting striped pullovers that mix dimensional and geometrical play, engineering perforated turtlenecks and cardigans, or dabbling in zebra patterns à la Schiaparelli, Zankov’s designs push boundaries with a rebellious yet refined attitude. It’s no shock that his knack for incorporating playful textures and unexpected patterns creates fashion that's as thought-provoking and statement-making as it is wearable. The Zankov Philosophy: Each Article Is an Emotional Statement Disrupting the status quo is what Zankov does best, reimagining knitwear as a versatile medium that merges art, vision, bold thinking, and the avant-garde. The designer even explains that establishing his namesake brand, Zankov, was to reach a specific goal: creating a strong visual language that’s instantly recognizable. He had the confidence, and it was his way or the highway; there would be no logos in sight—only his craftsmanship and creative lexicon.  Though, there would be quality. According to him, every little detail matters to the knitwear designer–whether it’s the weight of the knit or the type of the yarn. The designer masters the engineering of wear that’s precise, both in terms of cut and construction. No wonder Zankov was recently crowned American Emerging Designer of the year at the 2024 Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards. His mindful approach and admirable virtues position this style auteur on the radar, further cementing his status as the benchmark of knitwear craftsmanship.  What Zankov strives for is satisfying his customer with a curated piece that evokes an emotional connection. His deep understanding of himself and his work guarantees the slow and steady establishment of a cult following—a base that resonates with his unique emotive state. And, that’s a philosophy I'll happily get behind, as I'm sure many others will too.  A Look at Zankov’s Most Iconic Pieces During an interview with SHEESH!, Zankov unveiled the inspiration behind his passion for tactical knitwear—sculpture, interior design, iconic painters such as Picasso and Fernand Léger, and, interestingly, 1960s typography. In fact, according to one Vogue writer,  his work is reminiscent of Piet Mondrian, a Dutch painter known for his pure talent in abstract art and his signature neoplastic style. This only proves that Zankov’s vision is springing to life–showcasing his aptitude as a creative visionary who’s nailing the art of manifesting his authentic essence.  In his latest collection for SS/25, Zankov featured pastel and earthy tones, along with bright colors that blind, like violet, cocoa, peridot, bold reds, sunny yellows, and playful oranges. Here’s a snippet that truly highlights his design genius: Photo by: Johnson Lui, Ivan Bideac, Jimi Franklin So, the fuss is genuine. The fashion scene is aware that Zankov isn’t just shaping knitwear; he’s redefining it and breathing new life into what was once known as a humble craft. With each piece of Zankov knit, he tells a story that goes beyond fashion and fleeting trends—it's about identity, artistry, and a vision that can’t help but resonate. As his work continues to gain momentum, it becomes increasingly apparent that this style artisan will leave a lasting imprint within the fashion sphere. Keep an eye on Zankov—because the future of knitwear is in the hands of a true visionary.  Visit Fuss weekly or subscribe to join our community and keep your finger on the pulse of what’s coming next for Zankov and many other emerging designers.

  • The Effortless Two-Piece Sets and The Impact of a Total Look

The power of a total look is never to be underestimated—the era of versatile matching sets reaffirms the boundless statement that less is more. Over the years, the focus has been on mastering the monochrome look with various interpretations—enter the rise of maxi skirt sets, off-the-shoulder moments paired with comfy flare pants, and non-existent shorts complementing knitted cardigans. The effortless two-piece set proved to be a reliable ally—coming in handy whenever the thought, ‘you know what, I can’t be bothered right now,’ erupted. Yes guys, a casual two-piece set always manages to swoop in and save the day with zero fuss. I can vouch for it. The lot of us have those unfortunate instances that make us question our entire wardrobe—where we try on a bunch of fits only to end up looking in the mirror and being like, ‘Seriously? You have to be kidding me.’ Yeah…we’ve all been there. Now, that’s a fussy moment if I’ve ever seen one. In fact, this is my type of nightmare—truly the fashion equivalent of a soggy piece of pizza, lacking flavor, pizzazz, and that very necessary je ne sais quoi. Who has time for this? Certainly not me. In moments like this, you can find the power of a total look. Whether it’s a double-breasted jacket with low-waisted matching pants or a fun sweater paired with comfy, flowy trousers, a stylish two-piece set is here to be recognized as your go-to hero for the long haul—don it and roll out. Who can resist one less responsibility to take care of while still looking their best? Again, count me out, how about that?  The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Dress to Impress: How to Master Head-to-Toe Dressing? Okay, I'm not going to sit here and give you advice on how to put two and two together. But, do you know what I'm going to do? Exactly, come up with some real thoughts on the hows and whys and the…you get it. So, let’s kick it: Gimme Proportions Nailing the proportion play  isn’t a walk in the park. In fact, it’s a dance of the opposite sides: are you a big pants and fitted top, or fitted pants and big top enthusiast? It’s kind of normal to swing between the two, but that’s not all that the proportion play brings. This is where we ditch the idea of cookie-cutter stereotypes to bring in the asymmetry. Go for that one-shoulder top and pair it with matching pants that are equally finessing the scales. Highs and lows, top to bottom? Yes, please! All is in favor of frills, asymmetric hemlines, and quirky cuts that compliment the basic look of our beloved matching sets. The Art of Being You What can complement a simple two-piece outfit more than  the vibe of your whole being? Forget the  sleek buns  and latte makeup ; tie the look together with beachy waves, own the bounce of your natural curls, or balance the look with a bold red lip. What makes you feel truly like you ? Experiment and evolve without fitting into a box. Reflect your likes and personality through finishing touches that will put you in the spotlight. That’s what we’re about! Smart Stating  Repeat it with me: embodying my essence is what matters. Think smart about the statement you’re making about your identity. Does what’s inside match what’s put on the outside? It may appear at first glance that an  effortless two-piece  set isn’t the savvy pick you need to demonstrate your identity to the world. In reality, it’s the ultimate backdrop to add your personal flair into the mix. Think bold colors that you love and cherish, accessories that are so you, or an unexpected twist in styling that makes you own the look. I mean, yeah, head-to-toe dressing may be fuss-free, but storytelling comes with hurdles, though. A Piece of Statement, Everyone?  A total fashion look statement is never truly complete without a scene-stealer piece. A total look has to match; your footwear, bag, and outerwear do not. Play it clever by opting for trend-defying finishing touches—whether it’s tailored loafers for a timeless remix, a suede pouch with nifty tricks, or a dramatic cape  that revamps the vibe. With its refined versatility, classic yet comfortable nature, and ready to wear power, a chic co-ord can really smooth-out the challenge of choosing an ensemble on the go. And with that, I'm gonna leave it to you to pull out a look that’s confident and authentic. So, you’re up to manifest a statement with a minimalist two-piece? • The Synthetic Nightmare: Why Polyester Fabric Is a Health and Style Faux Pas

Imagine this: you’re out shopping, you stumble upon a piece of clothing that completely shakes up your world. You’re excited, you try it on, and then you notice the quality is downright unpleasant . You check the tag, only to come face-to-face with the one thing that ruins your entire day of retail therapy : “100% polyester.”  Oh, lord. There’s nothing worse than falling head over heels for that Zara dress, only to face the harsh reality that the fast fashion industry is wreaking havoc on your health, the planet, and—let’s be real—your scent. No amount of deodorant can save you from the inevitable sweat smell that comes with polyester. It’s like it not only traps it in, but it produces  buckets more—like, where is all this sweat even coming  from? Polyester really knows how to turn a cute outfit into a full-blown steam room trap. You’re no longer an individual—consider yourself a sweatbox from now on.  What’s worse is that it’s everywhere —omnipresent, really. Yes, I get that it’s cheap, easy to care for, and seems like a savior when it’s recycled, but this synthetic fabric is far from the miracle material it’s cracked up to be. The truth about polyester is that it’s doing more harm than good and it’s time for it to go. Why Polyester Is a Fashion Nightmare Now, there are bigger issues to discuss—obviously. While the great scent issue continues to persist due to polyester’s inability to wick away sweat or offer breathability, the problems with the polyester fabric don’t end there. Actually, there are several reasons why you should avoid this fabric. For starters, polyester is a synthetic fabric made from petroleum-based chemicals. This explains why it doesn’t breathe like cotton and linen, and traps moisture and bacteria left and right. I don’t know about you, but this could truly be the bane of my existence. And, that’s just the beginning. The real problem is how this fabric affects your comfort, your health, and the environment. Besides creating sticky and sweaty situations, polyester excels at making everyone uncomfortable in one way or another. It often causes allergy-sensitive individuals unwanted reactions and respiratory issues, as well as skin rashes, itching, irritation, infections, and even hormonal disruption—though the latter is still up for debate. A real, real health problem that sticks around for the sake of fast fashion.  In fact, NYC dermatologist Joshua Zeichner, MD, explains "Synthetic fabrics, like polyester or rough wool, can cause skin irritation and inflammation, and aggravate conditions like eczema or rosacea." This proves that avoiding polyester like the plague might actually be a good idea.  The Environmental Toll of Polyester: The Sweatstorm Fabric We’ve been talking about this for what, decades now? Toxic fabrics in fashion aren’t just the pitfall of the retail industry—they’re also a major issue  for our precious Earth. Polyester, besides its alarming health risks, sheds microplastics when washed, which enter our water supply and greatly affect our ecosystems and marine life.  And it’s not even like  polyester is sustainable  or biodegradable to be doing all this harm; its production is energy-intensive, relies mostly on non-renewable resources, depletes natural resources, pollutes water, and leaves behind a trail of carbon footprint that’s oh-so toxic. Does that dress still look sexy? It's both a sweatstorm and a wastestorm—a multitasker, just like its allies nylon , acrylic, rayon, and spandex. Avoiding Polyester 101: Going Au-Natural So, is polyester clothing bad?  Yeah, I’d say so. Whether you're buying pure polyester material or a polyester blend, it's always smart to know the downsides. Going au-naturale with natural fibers might be the savvy move we’re all looking for. While polyester seems like a no-brainer for a low-maintenance fashion choice, the reality is it’s a whole lot more trouble than it’s worth. It’s go-time for the show-stealer natural fabrics like cotton, linen, silk, wool, bamboo, cashmere, hemp , and more.  No funky odors, no sticky business, and no trails of huge, unnecessary waste in sight. These fabrics let your skin breathe, wick away moisture, and go easier on both you and the planet. They do more than preserve your wellness—they look luxurious, feel super soft, and offer the comfort we all crave amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The Fuss has been served. • The Suede Lore: Why Suede Keeps Making a Comeback

There’s something so profound about suede—exceeding even the appeal of edgy leather with its look, feel, and the vintage power it brings. With a story spanning decades, suede has firmly established itself as an undeniable favorite for those who consider it a staple in their closets—a statement-making piece that remains perpetually chic. Suede’s legacy is ever-present, and this season, it was spotted on the runways of esteemed designers like Miu Miu , Prada , Khaite, and Chloé , taking the forms of boho luxe and refined classic, sometimes even within the same show. From artisan-crafted suede boots  to suede jackets  and bags, this material stepped up to reign as an elevated fall play on texture. Now, it’s easy to imagine a beat-up, past-its-prime article that has long been forgotten when the word "suede" comes to mind; I get it. While suede jackets tend to be a classic route ready to be served at chain retailers every fall, they often used to lose their battles to shiny biker jackets and wool coats. However, it is suede’s turn to shine now. But, what is it about suede that makes it such an enduring favorite? A Fabric Steeped in History and Culture Suede has roots stretching back centuries, with origins in Scandinavia, where it was first used for gloves. Often known for its soft, velvety texture, suede is absurdly considered a delicate fabric. However, it is actually quite resilient—it is a high-quality form of leather, after all—forming almost a covenant with the opposite of what leather represents, a counter-expression to the edgy, rebellious, and sexy appeal of leather. In fact, during the 1960s and '70s, suede became a cultural staple, embodying the essence of the hippie and the bohemian. From fringed jackets to suede knee-high boots, this material has effortlessly captured the attention of trailblazers, blending comfort and ease with their signature flair. Fast forward to the current times, suede hasn’t lost its edge. It’s as though it holds a certain magic that other fabrics simply can’t replicate—an effortless combination of classic and cool.  The Comeback Factor: Why Suede Cycles Back  Every single time suede pops back up, it feels like a nod to the best fashion eras of the century, reviving the unbothered and moody spark we’ve long been yearning for. Suede is the real-deal slow burn you need in the closet, a fit that feels good, looks good, and sticks around. This season, not only are the haute couturiers giving suede’s velvety allure their seal of approval, but even runway icon Bella Hadid  is putting her stamp on it too. Recently, she debuted, in Vogue’s words, the it-bag of fall by stepping out with Valentino Garavani’s artisan Nellcote suede shoulder bag with fringes, backing up the fact that suede season is truly here to stay. This might just turn into Sofia Richie’s bet on quiet luxury, keeping us hooked to another core—the cowgirl  of the Wild West. Sure, Bella Hadid might boast a country heart stronger than ours, but it’s time we step up our take on a rugged charm as soulful as hers. Yeah, maybe it’s the elections reinstating the Americana ranch vibe back in the game, maybe it’s our desire as a society to connect more with an earthy spirit, or maybe we’re just here in time to embrace the understated, quiet elegance of the timeless suede again. Who knows? But there is definitely a nostalgic touch to suede that designers love to mold for a more contemporary feel. Whether you opt to invest in a Carhartt suede jacket or a YSL suede bag to revamp your ensembles, you can be sure that it will bring a rustic flavor that’s more refined than you think. Therefore, it’s not that suede ‘’comes back,’’ it cycles through because it’s a classic–one that we’ve overlooked for far too long. So, the next time you spot that perfect suede piece that makes a statement from miles away, I think you should cop it. Remember - it’s more than a purchase you will boot out the door once the season is over; it’s an actual investment that’s remarkably versatile.  So, we’re steady hitting the road, cowgirl-style. • Dynamic Pulse: How Next-Gen Designers Disrupt Classic Concepts of Fashion

We often remark that a timeless sense of style is a treasure secured after a substantial pursuit of style evolution. However, traditional fashion  can sometimes feel like a museum exhibit—stunning, but static. While it’s true that even the most mundane piece of clothing can tell a story with the right partners in crime, the disrupting, rule-bending, and status-quo-defying facets of creative thinking expand the threshold of innovative fashion design. Given that even evergreen classics can become emblems of disturbance in the right hands, the touching topic of next-gen designers redefining classic notions of fashion is one worth exploring. Where fashion and identity blend into a pool of heightened consciousness, I wonder if us modern-day consumers can ride the wave of broadened narratives. It’s a fact that some well-established high-fashion labels, such as Y/Project,   JW Anderson , Toga,   Maison Margiela , and Rick Owens , highlight the importance of symbolism in fashion, playing with proportions, deconstruction, unconventional silhouettes, and blurring the lines between what has been and what will be. Often pointing out the fact that fashion is gender-fluid  and a form of art that’s not always widely recognized, modern couture labels make sure to never leave the visionaries high and dry.  But what’s next in the scene of fashion rebellion? As up-and-coming innovative designers soar to fame and challenge the status quo, the future looks uncertain. For the next-gen, the aim is to nurture movements that bend the rules. From cultural storytelling to sharing personal experiences, the next move is to pave the way for a more inclusive, authentic, and story-driven fashion landscape. As boundaries blur and the lines of what constitutes fashion expand, we may find that the future holds limitless possibilities for self-expression and self-development—contributing to a stronger sense of personal style,  too. Let’s traverse deeper into the realm of perspectives and perceptions in fashion—awakening to both sides of the coin.  The Art of Disruption in Fashion: Redefining Moments of Experience with Every Stitch There ain’t no mind-bending, fashion-altering, era-defining milestones without the presence of disruption in fashion—where innovation is born out of a need for sensational change. From punk rock’s unapologetic statement pieces to the rise of ’90s grunge and modern-era streetwear, there have been many times when fashion underwent great change, bringing about bold concepts, future-forward perceptions, and a rebellious spirit. One example of this is the steady footprint of symbolism in couture and runway fashion, merging ideas and visuals that reflect the cultural, social, and personal themes ingrained in the subconscious of power-wielding designers. From displaying vast cultural references to fusing narrative-driven historical allusions, these designers bring light to prominent issues such as gender, equality, and politics. They relentlessly engage in deeper conversations—making the art of disruption a critical factor that redefines the making and the unmaking. All led by designers like Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Telfar, Gucci, Vetements, and many others, whose collections range from tartan patterns to androgynous silhouettes and bold textual elements, adding on layers for a cause. Next-Gen Designers: Pioneers of Change in Fashion So, what is the role of next-gen designers? Does the fine art of outdoing what has already been done impose disheartening limits? Brands like Shalou, Toga, Taottao, Zankov, Hodakova, and Caroline Zimbalist are on the radar for their brilliant designs that disrupt the fashion scene. These designers compose runways that empower self-expression and challenge norms by playing with natural elements, fluid prints, and mind-blowing silhouettes, paving the way for unconventional designs. Honestly, what’s not to love? Reimagined Japanese school uniforms or Toga’s take on merging the best of both worlds? Because I’m seated, and my soul? Fed. Now, don’t get me wrong—the issues persist. The era of activism in fashion  has not been a fever dream, as many of us hoped. What’s really putting the spotlight on next-gen designers is their brilliant dedication to focusing on several contemporary issues. These designers often advocate for sustainable manufacturing processes, ethical labor practices, and empowerment across all areas of fashion—breaking new ground in diversity, inclusivity, cultural appreciation, and mental, political, and social awareness. Besides all that,  the British fashion scene is booming  with talents like Bradley Sharpe, British-Jamaican designer Stanley Raffington , Sinéad O’Dwyer , Harri , and more. Hailing from all parts of the globe, they are set to become pillars of the fashion revolution—paying homage to their roots while leveraging personal vision, values, and mission alongside the new wave of AI tech designs that spiral our sense of reality, contributing to a creative, pure, and sustainable future. Yes, traditional fashion concepts are forever favorites, but next-gen designers are ultimately choosing to  defy convention —unveiling unorthodox concepts, designs, and processes that are truly shattering the status quo. So, buckle up–it’s about to get wild, you have to lock in at this point and stay fussy. What’s next for those who have rule-breaking perspectives? • Bring Back Personal Style: Where Do We Go Wrong?

Too often, we find ourselves trapped within a never-ending cycle of style slump—cluttering and decluttering our personal closet and going after the next best article of clothing. The pressure of staying on top of trends and getting ourselves into the pattern of trial and error leads, more often than not, to losing the authentic fashion expression that is individually ours. While it’s reasonable that we would make an unimpressive style mistake once in a while, squandering our creative vision in expressing personal style is a mistake we should so avoid, or at least try to. So, what’s the game plan? Is it breaking fashion rules  to pivot our direction or discovering unique wardrobe ideas that we will copy and paste? This might just be a fashion identity crisis waiting to erupt—where the more you dig into the advice of style experts, the more you steer away from finally making the leap to start your own style evolution. Then, what’s the move to overcome fashion conformities that thwart individuality? It’s all good and nice giving simple  advice on how to find your personal style —in the framework of: find your body type, take inspiration from trends, divert your gaze from the runway, and copy  style icons of the century , whether that’s Audrey Hepburn, Jacqueline Kennedy , or Britain’s beloved princess we all hold dear and esteem, Princess Diana.  Though there is no situation where a little black dress doesn’t save us women from an emergency breakdown, or where the simple act of putting on a pair of bicycle shorts and a jumper secures the comfort we need before running our unavoidable errands, that just doesn’t scream style, does it? Don’t get the wrong impression, there is no rule that proclaims you have to be stylish all the time, but it goes a long way for self-esteem. After all, what woman doesn’t crave a wardrobe that boldly expresses her identity? Now, I know you’re on the edge of your seat waiting to find out what the fuss is really about. If the commonly-found advice doesn’t work in reviving, rediscovering, or building personal style,  what does? What I’m trying to say is, let’s f-ing find out. The Allure of Trends Is a Lost Cause: Take FOMO Out the Way Personal style  is an integral part of self-discovery, individuality, and our unique character. What’s the point of losing your unique self chasing fleeting trends and ever-changing Pinterest boards? Let’s get real–trends leave little to no impact on who you are, while the power of personal style transcends wardrobes–showcasing all aspects of one’s selfhood, including diverse tastes and long-cherished experiences.  FOMO: The Real Style Killer Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) has become the unwelcome sidekick of our fashion choices. You see that celebrity rocking the latest fad, and suddenly, your wardrobe feels outdated. You see Margot Robbie on Barbie’s press tour, showing up and showing out; suddenly, you want to become a part of the experience. You convince yourself that to be considered stylish, you need to keep up with all that’s going on in the culture. Step out and take a breath– FOMO isn’t your friend; it’s a thief, robbing you of your authentic self and turning your closet into a playground of on-trend ensembles that will go out of style in a matter of months–if not minutes.  Instead of allowing FOMO to dictate your fashion choices, just flip the script. What truly resonates with your soul, personality, and values? The moment you start answering some questions about yourself will be the moment you hold the key to a timeless style for eternity.  Records of Personal Style: How to Make Individual Fashion Choices?  Diving headfirst into the Fuss records  of fashion trends versus personal style, one thing becomes clear—sincere originality is rare. That’s not to disrespect anyone who follows the trends or to compliment those who are self-claimed individualists. I follow ‘em too. Trends are there for a reason—they’re fun to play with and define eras very uniquely. More than that, trends kind of make us relate to each other on a societal level; they connect us, yet they also erode individual expression—a bit of a pickle.  But I know what really helped me as a relentless fashion devotee—getting to know me on a deeper level. The question was never, 'What looks good on me?' It was, 'What do I like, really?' Where in the book does it say I have to wear what society thinks will look good on me? While I experimented with layering, patterns, era codes, and various inspirations from Pinterest, it came to a point where my inspiration and spirit faded among the copycat outfits, sending me into a pit of apathy and chronic boredom. Where is the fun in that? I’m thinking– I thought this was supposed to be a fun way to express who I am? Wait though, so does this mean I have no idea who I am? Now, that’s a bigger problem than figuring out what I’m going to wear on a date. So, here goes the takeaway: Self-Discovery is Key I’m aware this is a modern-era magazine and not your therapist’s office, but hear me out–- start introspecting to find out what truly brings you joy. What colors, patterns, fabrics, and moods highlight the essence of who you are? This is going to be a long, fussy journey. Shift Your Mindset A shift in perspective can bring you the clarity you’ve been after for years. Instead of asking “What looks good on me?” focus on “What do I genuinely like?” Be honest and transparent with yourself–this will encourage you to be more authentic and allow you to truly, even fearlessly reflect yourself without a single filter.  Recognize Core Influences Everyone has a style icon they look up to and a particular style that they think really resonates with them. Reevaluate what inspires you to make the fashion choices you’re making. Understand that this is a journey and your preferences can change as you take the necessary steps in self-discovery. Explore your values in the process, what do they say about you and how can you reveal it through your fashion picks? At Fuss, we’ll explore all aspects of building personal style through our personal style course that will soon be available for purchase. There, we’ll dive deeper into how you can build and revive your authentic wardrobe step by step. • Limits Crossed: A Deep Dive Into Unisex and Gender-Fluid Fashion

If you’re tuned into Fuss, we recognize that you delve deep into the world of fashion to grasp its underlying intricacies. While the term ‘gender-fluid fashion’ is not a recent introduction, our understanding of its essence has only expanded in recent times. We now appreciate its significance for individuals who identify as non-binary or those who simply reject societal norms when it comes to dressing. Is fashion inherently tied to genders? Fashion, as an art form, serves as a means to express individuality, creativity, and personal taste. Consequently, the paramount aspect of being true to oneself is dressing for one’s body and personal satisfaction. Today, at Fuss, we embark on a thorough exploration of gender-fluid fashion, aiming to elucidate the distinctions between gender-fluid and unisex fashion. So, let’s get it started Fussy. What Is Gender-Fluid Fashion?   Outside of the limits and presumptions, gender-fluid fashion is finally making headlines. With Gen-Z consumers wielding social media as a tool to assert their individuality, it has become increasingly common to witness a blurring of traditional boundaries dictating what men and women should wear. The bold minds and personalities of today’s youth are instigating a positive transformation within the fashion industry. They are constructing a bridge between trendy and unconventional ideas, solidifying a new era for the future of fashion. Moreover, it’s not just the youth; high-fashion brands have also committed to reshaping the fashion landscape. Renowned names such as Gucci, Altuzarra, J.W. Anderson, and even Telfar have firmly set their intentions on paving the way for genderless fashion. Their efforts aim to support communities and embrace the fluidity that defines modern fashion. This is a big step in creating a more accepting world.  What Is Unisex Fashion? Before we dive deeper, let’s take a short look at the history of Unisex Fashion. With the significant shift in culture through the counterculture movements of the ‘60s and 70’s, unisex fashion grounded itself as an expression of freedom, challenging ingrained traditional norms and shaking the fashion realm to its core. While our society has now widely accepted the term ‘unisex’ and its entailings, we don’t often get to see genderless lines forefronted by luxury fashion houses. However, recently, this has begun to change, with Gucci and Pacsun crafting genderless collections, appealing to those who appreciate, and advocate for unisexual apparel. Before this giant leap with Gucci’s MX , Adidas, the renowned shoes and sportswear giant, had launched a genderless collection, collaborating with superstar singer, Beyonce.  Later, in 2020, Adidas established its first-ever gender-neutral concept store in Soho, London,  steering away from its classic distribution model to appeal to Gen-Z. Now, it’s more than apparent that our society has positively changed and evolved; not only by embracing those who belong to the LGBTQ+ community, but also catering to those who embrace their non-binary outlook and individualistic style. Long gone are the days of boxy-cuts and neutral palettes; designers and creative directors welcome the ever-changing spirit of fashion, adapting their skills and creativity to pioneer the snowballing of inclusivity and diversity. Do you feel included yet, fussy? What Is the Difference Between Gender-Fluid Fashion and Unisex Fashion? Well, while these two words are often used interchangeably, here’s a foolproof guide to what makes them different. It’s subtle, yet impactful, to say the least.  Unisex Fashion:   Unisex fashion typically refers to clothing items, styles, or designs that are marketed for all. Unisex garments are often designed to fit a wide range of body types, mostly cut and styled in standard sizes featuring a one-fits-all color palette. This wide range often includes garments like oversized t-shirts, hoodies, and jeans. Furthermore, unisex fashion is common, provided by many brands in the market, whether brick-and-mortar or high-end.  However, the term ‘unisex’ is quite outdated, often projecting an image of casual menswear. Thus,  gender-fluid or genderless fashion conjures a stronger image of fashion completely devoid of any gender implications.  Gender-Fluid Fashion:   Gender-fluid or genderless fashion goes a step further than unisex fashion, including clothing that is entirely devoid of gender-specific characteristics. Therefore, gender-neutral clothing does not conform to traditional masculine or feminine stereotypes in terms of design, silhouette, or style. Instead, gender-neutral fashion aims to offer clothing options that are free from gender labels and allow individuals to express themselves authentically, regardless of their gender identity. Which Brands Offer Gender-Neutral Apparel?  Several luxury and major brands offer gender-fluid apparel and collections, aiming to blur the lines between womenswear and menswear through innovative designs and captivating styling. For instance, Prada’s witty take on ambisexuality through its 2016 menswear collection, Maison Margiela’s abstract collection that relied on diagonal cuts for the Autumn/Winter 2019 Paris Fashion Week, or its All Gender ready-to-wear collection that trasforms a full-blast wardrobe of essential staples into avant-garde expressions. These groundbreaking collections paved the way for other premium brands to embrace gender-fluid fashion, inspiring many to contribute to the landscape such as, Celine , Balenciaga,   Rick Owens,   Thom Browne,  and many more. What Is the Future of Gender-Fluid and Unisex Fashion? Now, as more conversations spark on gender-binary issues, inclusivity, innovation, and societal expectations, we all recognize that the future of gender-fluid fashion is bright. While its not a brand new phenemonen–the 90’s have been a major influence in its growth– gender-fluid and unisex fashion still has a long way to go. However, Gen-Z proudly leads the way for it to anchor its impact in contemporary fashion.  In fact, according to Tom Fung, who is an assistant professor at the  Fox School of Business, traditional brick-and-mortar stores and online retailers may reevaluate their product lines and store layouts to accommodate gender-fluid shoppers. Aligned with this prospect, 2024 Spring/Summer Paris Fashion Week closed out with a clear message. Ending the fashion month was Duran Lantink, renowned for his gender-fluid designs, signaling what’s to come next in fashion.  So, we will all see together what the future brings.

  • The Rise of the Adidas Samba: What’s Next in the Sneaker Rotation

Initially designed as men’s shoes in 1949, the Samba was geared towards the sport of football. To direct these trainers to allure soccer players and fans, Adidas took inspiration from the FIFA World Cup, which took place in Brazil. That same year, Adidas named this model ‘’Samba,’’ alluding to the traditional Brazilian dance and music genre. Subsequently, the Samba’s popularity skyrocketed, finding itself a place among sneaker rotations of kicks buffs. Somewhere along its trendsetting popularity, the Samba lost relevance against emerging sneaker trends, becoming known as the outdated dad shoes that collect dust in the basement. However, the resurgence of Samba’s confirmed its sensational reputation, setting the stage for these vintage kicks to become the ultimate everyday staple. While some suggest that the Samba’s popularity is taking a dip, the horizon seems bright in favor of Adidas. Now, with ample footwear selections released often, there is no way to truly predict what Adidas will go viral for next. Offering something for every sport and occasion, Adidas supports the thrill of golf, hockey, tennis, running, and football, showcasing its genius in design innovation and comfort to all who wish to be a part of the Adidas family.  The Samba’s contribution to the increasing growth of Adidas in recent years simply can’t be dismissed, which is why we’re here at FUSS to discuss the status-quo and add our two cents for some remarkable insights. Considered one of Adidas’ all-time bestsellers, the Samba’s popularity has been fueled by pop culture figures and social media. In the beginning of the 2020’s, Adidas marked a significant influence by partnering with the likes of JJJJound , Jason Dill, Pleasures, Palace, and most recently, Wales Bonner, thus climbing Samba’s to the top of Lyst’s list of the hottest products of 2022. In fact, following its partnership collection for Samba’s with the British designer Wales Bonner, these kicks’ demand rose tenfold, justfying Adidas Samba’s positioning in Lyst’s hot index.  Clearly, the Samba has found another chance at joining the fashion rotation with its sleek silhouette that complements almost all styles. Boasting a lightweight and comfortable design suitable for every season, the Adidas Samba stuns with its versatility, claiming itself a coveted spot in the wardrobes of urban culture.  Evidently, the Adidas lifestyle sets the stage for minimalistic shoes and offbeat designs to potentially rule the scene, attracting all the cool kids to its store entryways.  What Was the Common Ground for Sneakers Trending in 2023? While Nike’s white AF 1’s continue to be a staple in the wardrobes of the regular folk, 2023 saw the transformation from sleek to retro peak. Last year was the year of retro kicks, futuristic silver, and obviously, dad core with the return of the likes of Adidas Samba’s and Salomon’s.  Yet, what united these trainers under one roof was the nostalgic gust right out of ‘70s to ’90s, proving that what goes around comes back around. Likes of New Balance 530’s and 550’s, Onitsuka tigers , Asics, Loewe’s retro-inspired kicks, Adidas Campus 00s , Adidas Gazelle , and reimagined Nike classics all had one thing in common; comfort, versatility, and lots and lots of understated pizzazz.  Which Sneakers Remain in the Sneaker Popularity Scale? Following Adidas Samba’s unwavering popularity are some of the newest drops and cult classics, such as the mass-favorite Converse, Nike x Bode and Nike V2K kicks, Salomon XT-6’s, Adidas Campus Originals x Bad Bunny collaboration, and Fenty x Puma creepers that effortlessly add a streetwear flair to any ensemble.  Which Kicks to Invest in 2024?  With almost half of the year gone and the fashion scene still reflecting the 2023 atmosphere, the long-term subculture favorites remain strong. This year, consider investing in classic and streamlined silhouettes and comfortable trainers.  However, if you’re one to be up to steal the spotlight on the streets, you can’t go wrong with a pair that serves some serious motion. Think Air Jordan 1 Low x Travis Scott Canary, Kobe 4 Protro Girl Dad, Air Jordan 4 Oxidized Green, Nike Air Peg 2K5, Nike Field General ’82 White and Light Bone, Nike Nocta Hot Step 2 White, and Pharrell Williams HumanRace Sambas. • The Sumptous Return of Cobalt Blue in Fashion

What Is the Historical Significance of Cobalt Blue?  Cobalt blue  is known for its roots dating back to the ancient civilizations of Egypt. First used in the 18th Dynasty in the New Kingdom of Egypt, the vibrant and bold hue of cobalt blue holds a significant importance for Egyptians. Turns out, back in the ancient times, Egyptians harnessed the beauty of cobalt compounds to carve glassware and ceramics, such as the famous blue-glazed pottery artifacts found in tombs. Likewise, native citizens of Egypt utilized the color cobalt to sculpt vessels, jars, and figurines, along with glass beads and amulets. I mean, why did a simple color hold so much value and cultural significance?  Well, for Egyptians, cobalt blue hues symbolized Egytpian religion and mythology. In fact, cobalt blue was strongly associated with the god Amun, who embodied divinity, eternity, and protection. The color also held a symbolic significance, as it reminded Egyptians the sky and the blue waters. This still seems relevant looking at  Kim Jennie’s attire choice for the 2024 Met Gala.  Thus, pooling such things under one roof, cobalt blue was often utilized to craft amulets and talisman, which were believed to offer spiritual protection, warding off evil and magic. However, there’s more to the picture. Egyptians adored cobalt blue so much that they used it in cosmetics, often as a Kohl, which is a type of eyeliner. Furthermore, cobalt blue pigments were used in paintings, wall decorations, and murals to emphasize scenes from religious ceremonies, and snippets of daily life.  Now, Egyptians weren’t the only ones enamored by the rich shade of cobalt; during the Tang Dynasty period, Chinese used the vibrant hues of cobalt to decorate porcelains, transforming the color into a significant element of traditional Chinese porcelain . Later, cobalt blue soared to popularity during the European Renaissance and the Industrial Revolution periods. Today, the vivid color of cobalt still holds significance in the realm of modern art, fashion, and pottery.  What Is the Psychology Behind Cobalt Blue and Its Impact in Fashion? Often associated with serenity, strength, and reliability, blue hues are prominent across several cultures and religions.  Blue is a color that evokes a subtle authority, and is sometimes linked to spirituality, present in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. So, this dark and vivid shade of blue not only promotes introspective thinking, mindfulness, and concentration, it also enhances self-expression.  While it's often thought that we dress according to our mental space and emotional track, cobalt blue is a color that represents drastically opposite ends of the emotional spectrum. This color is as linked to feelings of sadness and depression as its linked to divine revelations and positivity, making it a versatile color you can dress up or down. Additionally, its easy to observe cobalt blue being utilized in uniforms, design studios, and even financial institutes, as the vibrant shade of cobalt blue sparks creativity, order, and team-work spirit.  Heavily used in the 1830s and 1840s for dyeing fabrics, cobalt blue soared in popularity with the impact of the industrial revolution the most, appearing more frequently in clothing and accessories over time. So, yeah, this color had a pretty rocky time making it to the modern world it seems. What Is the Reason Behind Cobalt Blue’s Return? Joining dopamine dressing journeys of fashion connoisseurs, cobalt blue has been a ticking trend bomb since 2023, with the royal hue of cobalt being paraded down the runways of Alexander McQueen’s Spring/Summer collection that year. Not only that, cobalt blue was seen donned by Kate Middleton, Dua Lipa, and more renowned figures of our culture.  Indeed, we bid farewell to the electrifying tone of viva magenta , making way for edgier colors to steal the spotlight, like burgundy, emerald green, and cobalt blue. Recently, with the mighty return of the fashion week, cobalt blue garnered more attention than ever, being featured in the Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter collections of 2024 and 2025 . The return of the cobalt was, in short, absolutely bitching. Cobalt blue painted the runways of The Row, Givenchy, Paco Rabbane, Loewe, JW Anderson, Acne Studios, Daniel Lee, The Attico, and more with various of its thrilling tones. From crocheted dresses, gradient polos, and flowing gowns to band jackets and fur coats, cobalt blue got the feel-good treatment it deserved in the dynamic era of fashion—just look at Zendaya in Challengers. Cmon, even  PS5 hopped on the wagon, offering its gamer-certified DualSense controller in a jazzy shade of cobalt.  Thus, no need to turn every rock on earth to find the reason behind the resurgence of cobalt blue. The answer is quite simple: dynamic  cobalt is here to stay,  many thanks to the creative directors in fashion! What a dream. How to Color Pair Cobalt Blue Right? Now, i bet you’re itching to know what all the fuss is about. Here’s how you can settle into your cobalt blues. First, it’s essential to decide on the overall vibe you want to exude. What do you envision to achieve? Are you aiming for a clean and flawless finish, or a dynamic pairing with plenty of attitude? Maybe you’re into prints to express your taste in art and fashion? Whether you’re after a work-appropriate ensemble or streetwear casual with a dash of color, cobalt blue proves itself as the dependable sidekick to your capsule closet.  We suggest you give tried-and-true neutrals a whirl. However, don’t wimp out on daring to experiment with unexpected twists. Pair cobalt blue with red and orange for a daring, and totally unforgettable look. Perhaps leverage tone-on-tone for a finish oh-so sleek. Get creative with abstract shapes, unfinished trims, and deconstructed pieces to leave a long-lasting impact in the trendsetter scene.
